This privacy policy (this “Policy”) serves to inform You, the user, of Town LLC’s services and mobile app (collectively our “Service”) privacy practices and the possible uses of the information that we gather via your use of our Service. We, Town LLC (“Town” “we,” and “us”), care about your trust and confidence, and therefore make it a priority to ensure that your information is secure and confidential. Please read this privacy policy to learn about how we collect, use and share your information whenever you use our Services. This includes every way that you may interact with use, including through our mobile application, websites, or other online products or services that link to this Policy. By using our Services, you consent to the data collection and use practices described herein. You also acknowledge that any dispute you may have over privacy is subject to this Policy and our Terms of service and is incorporated by reference into this Policy.
We want to empower you to make the best decisions about the information that you share Town. That’s the purpose of this Privacy Policy. You should fully and carefully read this policy, but here are a few major points we hope you take away from it:
- Town app (Town) is public, therefore posts are instantly searchable and viewable by anyone anywhere in the globe. We give you a private ‘protected’ ways to communicate using Town as well, through turning your account to a protection mode, and also via private Messages. You can also use Town under a pseudonym if you don’t prefer to use your name or real identity.
- When using Town, you have to turn your location on, so we know which city you are in in order to direct your posts to that city feeds. You can also opt out from allowing access to your location, in this case we will allow you to browse the app, but you cannot make any posts or likes or comments. You can only browse.
- When using Town, even if you’re just looking at posts, we receive some personal information from you such as the type of device you’re using and your IP address. You can choose to share additional information with us like your email address, phone number, address book contacts, and a public profile. We use this information for things like keeping your account secure and showing you more relevant posts, events, who to follow and advertisements.
- We also might use your posts, content you’ve liked, read and other information to determine what topics you’re interested in, your age, the languages you speak, and other signals to show you more relevant content. In addition, we give you transparency into that information, and you can modify or correct it at any time.
- If you have questions about this policy, how we collect or process your personal data, or anything else related to our privacy practices, we want to hear from you. You can contact us at any time.
- Information You Share With Us: We require certain information to provide our services to you. For example, you must have an account in order to upload or share content on Town or even browse. When you choose to share the information below with us, we collect and use it to operate our services.
Basic Account Information
If you do choose to create an account, you must provide us with some personal data so that we can provide our services to you. On Town this includes a display name, a username (for example, @Townusername), a password, and an email address or phone number. Your display name and username are always public, but you can use either your real name or a pseudonym. You can also create and manage multiple Town accounts, for example to express different parts of your identity.
Public Information
Most activity on Town is public, including your profile information, your time zone and your current city. When you created your account, and your posts and certain information about your posts like the date, time, and application and version of Town you post from. Also, the lists you create, people you follow and who follow you, and posts you Like are also public. Clicks on Town are also public along with when you took those actions.
Location Information:
A central feature of our Service is the ability to communicate based on your location (city based) and other location proximity features. Because of this, in order to use our Service, we require that you provide access to your location information through the use of your mobile device. If you do not wish to provide your location information, you will be able to use our Service in a browsing mode. Meaning you will be able to access Town and see all public posts in our platform and search for other cities as well. However, you cannot post or like or comment or use any other feature in the app until you allow your location service.
Automatically Collected Information:
We reserve the right to automatically track, monitor, and record traffic data on our Service. This information is used to improve the functions of our service, improve user experience, and for targeted advertising. Such automatically collected information includes: the date, time, and length of Service access, device information, including the hardware model, mobile operating system and version, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information, your activities within the Services, language information, internet domain and host names, internet protocol (IP) addresses, and clickstream patterns.
- How We Collect Information: We may automatically track, monitor, and record data through the use of cookies and other tracking technologies.
- Cookies are small data text files that websites and apps use to recognize repeat users in order to facilitate users’ access to the website or app and to track usage behavior and compile usage information that allows for the improvement of content and targeted advertising. Most browsers allow you to control whether or not to accept cookies from individual sites, but note that some features of the Service may not work properly with cookies blocked. You may also get cookies from our advertisers or other third parties, as is standard practice in the internet industry. We have no control over these cookies.
- Other Technologies may also be employed to record personal information. We may use “tracer tags”, which may also be referred to as “Clear GIFS”, “Pixels”, or “Web Beacons”. Tracer tags are embedded in the code of a web page and are used to monitor traffic patterns of users from one page within our Service to another, to deliver or communicate with cookies, and to understand if users came to our site from an online advertisement from a third party site. We may link the information we record using cookies or tracking technology to information we have stored.
You are responsible for your posts and other information you provide through our services, and you should think carefully about what you make public, especially if it is sensitive information. If you update your public information on Town, such as by deleting a post or deactivating your account, we will reflect your updated content on Town, Town for iOS, and town for Android.
Push Notifications and Alerts
We may send push notifications or alerts to your mobile device. However, at any time you may deactivate such messages by adjusting the settings on your mobile device or changing your privacy settings within our Service.
Protecting your Information
Your information may be transferred to, and maintained on, computers located outside the jurisdiction in which you reside. Please be aware that the privacy laws where your information is transferred may offer more or less protection than the laws where you live. By voluntarily submitting information to us, you consent to have your information transferred to, processed, and stored in the United States, irrespective of what geographic region you are located in.
Children’s Policy
We do not intend for the Service to be used by individuals under the age of 13. If you are under the age of 13 you may use our Service only if you are an emancipated minor or possess legal parental or guardian consent and are fully able and competent to enter the Terms of Use and this Policy. Should we determine that a child under the age of 13 has used our Service, we will immediately terminate the account.
Third Party Links
Our Service may contain links that take you to other sites not controlled or operated by us. Such outside websites do not operate under this Privacy Policy. We encourage you to examine the privacy statements posted on those sites in order to inform yourself of their various procedures for collecting, using, and disclosing your information.
Governing Law and Arbitration Provision
By using our Service, you accept that any dispute over privacy is subject to this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use Policy. This Policy and the privacy practices of Town are subject exclusively to the laws of California, without regard to its conflict of law principles. We make no representation that this Privacy Policy and such practices comply with the laws of any country outside the United States.
Changes to this Policy
We reserve the right to occasionally update this Privacy Policy in the future. At such time, we will also revise the “last updated” date found at the top of this Policy. For material changes to this Policy, we will notify you through in-App notifications. We encourage you to periodically review this Privacy Policy.
